Building Memories at Build-a-Bear

This past Friday I was able to spend the day with my godchild Alex for his 7th birthday. We decided to go to Build-a-Bear since he'd never been. He loves stuffed animals so I knew this would be a place that he would enjoy. He was excited as soon as we walked in the mall. He was ooohhhing and awwwwing at all the christmas decorations everywhere. First we got something to eat at Sbarro's where he had a huge piece of pizza. We arrived at Build-a-Bear and he couldn't believe all the bears and animals to choose from. He ended up choosing a puppy, which I guessed he would. He went and had his puppy stuffed and sewed up. He loved controlling the button for the stuffing. The old lady who helps stuff and sew him is so good with the kids. She made him feel special by giving him a birthday bear name tag. He got to put an extra heart in his bear because it was his birthday. So in turn that gave him an extra wish. He also had a puppy bark put inside. The next stop was to groom, wash, and fluff his puppy. He thought that was neat. Then on to the dressing area. First we had to pick out an outfit. I think I was more excited to pick out shoes and accessories then he was. I guess that's the girl in me and forget he's a little a boy and it's not as important to him. He ended up just picking out a striped long sleeve shirt with a hood for his puppy. Nothing I could say could convince him to pick out pants or shoes. I did manage to convince him to pick out something else for his puppy to wear, so he picked out some cool sunglasses. The last stop was making his birth certificate. Alex decided to name him Spot. The puppy ended up looking really cute. He had such a good time and loved the fact that he made it himself and got to pick it out. He told me, "GG, I'm never ever gonna loose this puppy and I'm always gonna have it, sleep with it, and take it back and forth wherever I go". The next day when I talked to my grandma she said he showed the puppy to everyone who came over and told them all about how he made it. This to me was so much better than any other birthday present I could have bought him and picked out myself and wrapped. I think what makes it stand out is it's something he'll always remember and that we got to spend time together.
