"We girls can do anything! Right Barbie?"

Anyone who knew me as a little girl knows how much I loved Barbie. I mean some girls liked playing Barbies, but I really truly loved playing with my Barbie dolls and all the accessories. I mean my mom even let me set up a "Barbieland" in our formal living room for a month or two when we had no furniture for awhile. It was fully equipped with everything I thought Barbie needed that I collected over the years. There was Barbie's apartment, that I designed with couches, a bedroom, & kitchen. Barbie had places to go like a doctors office, icecream parlor, soda shop, t-shirt/surf store, and a McDonalds. Yes, kids a I had a actual replica of Mickey D's for Barbie in the 80's. It was as cool as it sounds. I even had designated parking spots for Barbie's 57 chevy, Corvette, and remote control motorcycle that she used to get to these places. I arranged everything in a circle where I could sit in the middle and play to my hearts content. Which I did for many hours.

I'd get lost in my own fantasy world of Barbie. She could be or do anything I wanted her to be. Anything I wanted to be. Things I could never do (and this is way before I got "sick") I could pretend with Barbie's help I could. As the song goes I literally was a "Barbie girl in a Barbie World". I was dedicated and loyal to Barbie over my other toys. I can remember crying when I packed my Barbies up in a box and put them in the crawl space when I was too old to play with them anymore. As an adult I collected Hallmark Barbie ornaments and different collector Barbies that I still have today.

Barbie is celebrating her 50th Anniversary this year as one of the top toy brands in the world.  She has never been adapted before into a live action film. It will be interesting to see how this translates into a film.

Let's not forgot all Barbies occupations...doctor, teacher, rockstar, and business woman just to name a few. Plus since they announced I think last year that Barbie and Ken broke up, I wonder how they'll deal with that. Now the big question is who do you guys think should play one of the most famous dolls in history? Here are some names I've thought of right now: Reese Witherspoon, Anna Faris, Scarlet Johansson, Charlize Theron. What do you guys think? Please don't say Jessica Simpson. I know she has the body, but it'd be nice to have someone that can act. Oh Barbara Millicent Roberts (that's Barbie's full name for all of you who weren't obsessed) whatever adventures will Hollywood put you through? I look forward to finding out.

  1. As a huge Barbie fan myself I am gratified to see someone else who doesn't beat down the poor doll...what do you think of her movies?
Barbie and the Nutcracker was seriously the only thing I ever watched when I was little and I am now training for a career as a ballerina, so I think I might be biased but I think the movies are pretty awesome (the older ones mostly)
